FAQ’s

Practicing Safety and Health During Covid-19

We are dedicated to providing a fun and safe experience to our customers during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Learn more about how we’re taking preventative measures and other important facts regarding our tours during this time.

Why should I choose East End Bike Tours™?

There’s no better location in wine country to start your ride: Our meeting point is located in the heart of the vineyards and surrounded by flat to gently rolling roads. From this general vicinity, we are surrounded by more than 50 wineries, tree-lined streets, farm stands, scenic views of the Peconic Bay, and much more!

Our local connections & experience: We’ve been visiting local shops, wineries, boutiques, and farm stands and have developed some great relationships. We’re eager to share our knowledge and relationships to enhance your experience!

Reap the rewards of our local knowledge: Our Tour Guides and Winery Staff reflect a diverse array of expertise and local knowledge. The local Winery staff is eager to take novice tasters under their wing to educate them about the history and knowledge of their award-winning wines. Our guests may venture into the vineyard fields for a first-hand look at the grapes – which also makes for a great photo-op!

Our commitment to you: The guides at EEBT all share one thing in common; a shared commitment to doing everything we can to make the day you spend cycling with us the single most favorite thing you do all year. Each tour encompasses something for everyone’s taste: touring, sightseeing, exercising, sampling, indulging, learning, photographing, and shopping.

Our goal is to be environmentally friendly: Anyone who wishes to visit Long Island’s Wine Country can do so by bicycle, car, limo, or bus. At EEBT we strive to be an environmentally friendly tour company and minimize our carbon footprint – which is why we prefer cycling on our tour, rather than driving.

Which Tour is Best for Me?

We have a variety of tours and options to choose from, each with its own unique routes and experiences. For example, our North Fork Tour and Classic Wine Country Tour are our most popular and are ideal for leisurely, enjoyable rides that immerse you in everything that wine country has to offer. To decide what’s best for you and your group, view our tours page.

For those who wish to create their own adventures, our Self-Guided Tours offer everything you need for a day of cycling and vineyards. There are several self-guided GPS route plans available that allow you to follow pre-determined tours of various lengths and landscapes.

Please note that some people consider the Long Island Railroad Train – we highly discourage this option as the arrival & departure times generally conflict with our tour schedules. We strive to stay on time and ask you to be considerate of your reservations and of other customers.

What is the distance and how long will we will be cycling?

Our tours range in length. The current and most popular route we cycle is approximately 13 miles long, round trip. Longer and shorter routes are available, depending on the tour. Each tour page will list the length of the ride.

*NOTE: For the convenience of everyone involved, please ensure all riders are in physical shape sufficient for the tour they’ve chosen.*

There are multiple stops in our journey that allow us to rest, relax and re-hydrate.

Our average tour is approximately 5 hours in length; however, once we return to Mattituck and you shed the responsibility of your bicycles – you are welcome to stay and shop at the many boutiques on Mattituck’s famous, Love Lane – a 10-minute walk from our location.

What type of equipment and bicycles will we be using?

We own a fleet of Kent Tandem (2-person) Comfort bicycles and Diamondback Hybrid bicycles. All bicycles are professionally maintained and visually inspected before each excursion.

Please note that our supply of tandem bicycles is limited and is available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

What should I wear/bring on the tour?

Cool mornings make “layering” the best choice for this activity. Beyond that, your main focus should be comfort. Casual shorts or capri pants are recommended. Denim is probably the only fabric we recommend avoiding due to its thick seams. We recommend wearing closed-toe shoes or sneakers that are secured on your feet.

On our tours, we recommend each guest bring a backpack to store all their belongings while we are underway. If you are into photography, feel free to bring a camera along; there will be many photogenic spots available along the route! We ask that each guest bring money, a valid driver’s license or another form of picture identification, sunglasses, sunscreen, and a mobile phone.

What if I don’t want to ride anymore?

The convenient detail about our “guided” tour route is we cycle in one giant circle. At any segment of our journey, we will not be further than 4.5 miles from our starting point. Additionally; if at any point you wish to cease riding, we will assist you in arranging transportation back to our starting point.

For the convenience of everyone involved, please ensure all riders are in physical shape sufficient for the tour they’ve chosen.

How much should I tip my guide?

Your guides work hard to provide you with an excellent tour experience, interesting wine facts, and a delicious gourmet lunch. For guide tips, we suggest $15-$20 per guest for day tours.

Can I bring my own bicycle and/or helmet?

Yes, of course! However, we do not offer a discounted rate for guests who bring their own bicycles on our guided tours. Also, please be sure to take special note of the following:

  • Your bike should be safe and in good mechanical condition.
  • Our tools and repair kits are designed specifically for the bikes we provide on our tours. Therefore, when riding your own bike, you will be responsible for any required roadside maintenance. Please take this into consideration.
Can I add extra people to the Private Guided Tour?

Our Private Guided Tours are catered to private groups. We can say with certainty that you may add up to 3 additional people to your private tour for a total of 9 people. If you have a request for more than 9 people, please contact us to see if we can accommodate your request.

Are weekday tours the same rate as weekend tours?

Weekday tours are smaller and have more of a private feel to them and therefore are typically a few dollars more than the weekend tours. Vouchers will incur an additional fee for weekday tours.

Is there a minimum age for this tour?

Our tours are generally available only to guests age 21 and over. However, in certain circumstances, we may allow a rider of 16 years or older within a group of adults. Unfortunately, due to the nature of the tours (visiting wineries, vineyards, or a brewery – and alcohol consumption), we cannot allow younger children to accompany their parents. This simple rule serves as a safety measure while ensuring all riders have an enjoyable experience.

Anyone under the age of 21 is strictly prohibited from alcohol consumption during any part of our tours or use of our equipment, and as applicable by law.

If you plan to have two people under 21 on your tour, we’d highly recommend that you consider our Private Guided Tours which allow for up to 6 persons.

What happens if it rains?

If there is a report of severe weather, we reserve the right to cancel and reschedule the tour.

Occasionally we will encounter passing showers while riding – for situations like these we will pass out rain ponchos to our guests. If the rain is short and unexpected, we will seek shelter (if possible) until the showers pass. If we encounter severe weather while we are cycling, we may have to terminate the tour. Your safety is our #1 priority!

Please keep in mind that while we do monitor the weather closely, an hourly forecast is unavailable until 24-hours prior to the day of any given tour. However, if the weather is forecasting extended rains, or on/off rainstorms for a period covering several days, we will notify you a few days beforehand to reschedule your tour. This all depends on the forecast, the forecasted intensity, and the date and times of your tour in relation to the expected weather.

While we never enjoy rescheduling, sometimes this is unavoidable. When this situation occurs, we do our best to work with you and your group to reschedule for an ideal future tour date!

Do you deliver bikes?
In some circumstances we can accommodate bike deliveries, however this is by appointment and through communication with us live.

Can I do an E-Bike Rental or Self-Guided E-Bike Tour?

We offer single bike and tandem hybrid bikes for rentals and self-guided bike tours. We offer e-bikes on all of our private, and guided bike tours through wine country-.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept credit cards as well as zelle. If you have zelle you will save on the card process fee. When you are in the checkout process make sure to look past the google pay option and you can select zelle and follow the instructions on the website. Cash is an available payment method also if you are local to long island.
